Children often look. They stare. They point and ask questions because they are trying to understand the world around them. And almost always, a well-meaning adult steps in and corrects them. “Don’t stare. That’s not polite.” Over time, that correction becomes a behaviour. What that creates is a world where we’ve looked away and medically complex children are no longer seen.

The idea is centred on play. One of the few spaces where kids are naturally open, curious, and unafraid of getting things wrong. Instead of asking families to sit down and talk about disability, we created Where Hope Lives, a board game designed to be played together. Because playing a board game already comes with permission for kids to ask questions.
